FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of wear-resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. First, bottom layer of niobium nitride is applied. Then upper layer of nitride of niobium, zirconium and chrome is applied at their ratio, wt%: niobium 55.0, zirconium 34.0–38.0, chromium 7.0–11.0. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and second of which are made of niobium and are located opposite to each other, and the third one is made of zirconium and chromium compound and placed between them, wherein lower layer is applied using first and second cathodes, and upper layer is using said three cathodes.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of cutting tool and reduced time of coating application.
