FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing gamma-butyrobetaine from gamma-aminobutyric acid and dimethyl sulphate, in which the process is carried out at temperature of 0–5 °C, in the presence of a suitable alkaline agent and carbon dioxide, to form a salt of gamma-butyrobetaine and sulphuric acid monomethyl ether, further extraction of said salt in a suitable solvent and possibility of its subsequent conversion into a zwitterion (internal salt) of gamma-butyrobetaine, or into gamma-butyrobetaine hydrochloride.
EFFECT: technical result is a novel method of producing high-frequency gamma-butyrobetaine and an output which can be used for producing pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic agents and substances.
