FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for semi-continuous casting of flat large ingots from aluminum-magnesium alloys doped with scandium and zirconium. In the main period of casting maximum depth of the hole of the liquid alloy in the crystallizer is maintained not more than the value calculated by formula: Lh=(1±0.03)×[0.875×(H-B)×B:H], where Lh – maximum depth of the hole of the liquid alloy, mm; H is ingot width, mm; B is ingot thickness, mm; 0.875 – empirical coefficient; (1±0.03) is a confidence interval. Content of scandium in the alloy is not more than 0.15 wt%.
EFFECT: improved mechanical characteristics of aluminum-magnesium alloys after annealing due to formation of high amount of dispersed aluminides of scandium and zirconium as a result of decomposition of supersaturated solid solutions while reducing consumption of scandium, higher output and yield of products at further processing of annealed ingots.
