SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method of treating and/or inhibiting progression of neurodegeneration in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a DNAase enzyme, said neurodegeneration associated with an elevated level of extracellular DNA in the blood, or cerebrospinal fluid, or intestine of said patient, wherein said extracellular DNA has prokaryotic origin. Group of inventions also relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing a DNAase enzyme, for preventing, treating and/or inhibiting the progression of neurodegeneration; using a DNAase enzyme for preventing, treating and/or inhibiting the progression of neurodegeneration in a patient.
