FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of proppants intended for use as proppants when producing oil or gas by hydraulic fracturing. Method of producing magnesium silicate proppant, comprising steps of: preparing, comprising preliminary annealing of magnesium-containing material and co-grinding initial magnesium-containing and auxiliary materials to obtain a charge, granulating charge to produce proppant precursor granules and firing proppant precursor granules to obtain propping agent proppant granules, where mixture contains serpentinite as magnesium-containing material and sand as auxiliary material in ratio, wt %: serpentinite 35, sand 65, charge contains 35 parts by weight of serpentinite of Kiembayevsky deposit of chrysotile asbestos.

EFFECT: technical result is optimization of rupture/bulk density of proppant in order to increase conductivity of proppant layer and involving in circulation of new previously not used for these purposes magnesium-containing material—serpentinite of Kiembayevsky deposit of chrysotile asbestos (passport of Russian Federal Geological Fund No_ B-7549 of State inventory of deposits and manifestations of minerals).
