SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method, a computer-readable data medium and a DNS server for converting an IP address. Method comprises a step of obtaining, by a DNS server, an address conversion request comprising a data element representing a MAC address identifying a communication entity, connected to a wireless local area network based on a protocol different from the IP protocol, and the data element representing the MAC address has a formal domain name system, wherein the domain name consists of two consecutive domains: a first lower level domain formed from said MAC address, a given high-level domain; a search step within the IP address database of the DNS server of the IP address depending on the data element representing the MAC address, wherein the IP address identifies the device with which the communication entity should exchange data, and a step of transmitting said IP address by a DNS server to a gateway connecting a wireless local area network based on said protocol, which is different from the IP protocol, to a wide-area network with an IP protocol.
EFFECT: technical result consists in enabling IP address conversion.
