FIELD: information technologies.

SUBSTANCE: method to update a dynamic name system (DNS) in a packet data network includes the following stages: reception of a router's request from an access terminal to do autoconfiguration of an address without memorising the condition; sending a prefix of the IP protocol, version 6 (IPv6) to the access terminal, which is followed by a request of the adjacent node of the access terminal address in response to the router's request; reception of an announcement of the adjacent node from the access terminal, which contains the access terminal address, on the basis of at least partially the request of the adjacent node, besides, the access terminal address includes a full IPv6 address; and initiation of a network action to call for update of the DNS system, with application of the specified received full address of the access terminal IPv6.

EFFECT: expansion of functional resources due to implementation of a request of an adjacent node to an access terminal for detection of an announcement of an adjacent node, when it becomes necessary to update a DNS, and an access terminal has not yet announced a full IPv6 address.
