PYROLYSIS TO CREATE PRESSURE IN OIL FORMATIONS Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC E21B43/24

Abstract RU 2728107 C2

FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of hydrocarbons from underground formations. Method of treating an underground hydrocarbon formation, comprising a kerogen-containing formation and a formation comprising liquid hydrocarbons, comprises steps of providing heat sources in kerogen-containing formation, which adjoins formation containing liquid hydrocarbons; supplying power to heat sources for heating the kerogen-bearing formation; heating at least a portion of the kerogen-containing formation to such temperature and such a period of time sufficient for pyrolysis of at least part of kerogen and formation of vapors; limiting production of pyrolyzed hydrocarbons in such a way that pyrolyzed hydrocarbons increase pressure inside formation containing liquid hydrocarbons; producing hydrocarbons from formation, containing liquid hydrocarbons, wherein vapors obtained during pyrolysis displace at least part of hydrocarbons from formation containing liquid hydrocarbons in the direction of production wells. At that, formation containing liquid hydrocarbons contains not more than 5 wt % of kerogen, has initial permeability of at least 10 darsi, has permeability higher than permeability of kerogen-bearing formation and does not have natural back pressure system.

EFFECT: technical result is increase of liquid hydrocarbons extraction volume, provision of extraction profitability.
