FIELD: navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation of independently controlled vehicles and movable robots. Method of detecting objects by means of a radar with an array of receiving and transmitting MIMO elements comprises generating a first beam pattern through an array of receiving and transmitting elements comprising M elements vertically and N elements horizontally, wherein fast detection of objects with low resolution is carried out by forming a resultant array NxM; generating a second beam pattern through an array of receiving and transmitting elements comprising N receiving (transmitting) elements and N' transmitting (receiving) elements on the horizontal, wherein detection of objects with high resolution in the horizontal plane is performed by forming the resultant array NxN' horizontally; formation of a third beam pattern through an array of receiving and transmitting elements comprising M transmitting (receiving) elements in vertical and M' receiving (transmitting) elements along the horizontal line, wherein detection of objects with high resolution in vertical plane due to formation of resultant array M'xM along vertical line; and forming a map of the detected object based on the detection results by means of at least one of said beam patterns. Also disclosed is a mobile robot navigation system comprising a radar implementing said method, and a processor configured to generate a map of the detected object and make decisions on controlling the mobile robot based on said map of the detected object.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of time of data processing when obstacles are detected and/or obstacle map is formed in navigation system of robot or independently controlled vehicle.
