FIELD: optical communication technique.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical communication and can be used in designing equipment for high-speed soliton transmission systems. Optical signal multiplexer using Kerr effect is made in form of four input polarization filters, after which optical beams acquire polarization and is exposed to electric field in electrooptical anisotropic substance with double refraction to change wave polarization. Further, the optical beam is transmitted simultaneously to output polarization filters, in which the polarization vector is orthogonal relative to the polarization vector of the input polarization filter. When the switching electric potential is applied, the polarization vector of the optical beam can be rejected. As a result, the beam can pass through only one output polarization filter.
EFFECT: reliable direction with high speed of one of the input light fluxes into the output channel due to switching devices which change the polarization plane under action of the Kerr effect.
