FIELD: non-linear integral and fiber optics. SUBSTANCE: device has serial circuit of MO element with unit which generates alternating magnetic field, non-linear optical element and splitter of beams with orthogonal polarization. In addition device may have polarizer, which is mounted at its input, and double refraction element, which is mounted behind MO element. Non-linear element may be designed as waveguide, in particular, with non-linear layered semiconductor structure using multiple quantum wells. MO element, double- refraction element, non-linear element which are designed as waveguides, and splitter of beams with orthogonal polarization, may be designed as single waveguide piece which is doped by different ions in its different regions. EFFECT: sharp increase in Faraday effect, high level of modulation for low current amplitudes, increased speed and low losses, possibility to read information with higher density. 27 cl, 7 dwg
