FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: video projector includes a liquid crystal microdisplay based on a FLCoS structure with a smectic liquid crystal (SLC) and an optical unit for reading information generated in the FLCoS structure, having a light source and a projection optical system, optically connected to the FLCoS structure and with a screen on which said information is projected. The electrooptical material used in the FLCoS structure is a low-voltage SLC with a compensated helicoids, which provides a physically realised, continuous, half-tone, non-hysteresis modulation characteristic. Red, green and blue lasers serve as a light source in three different RGB colour channels. In order to eliminate the interference capacity of radiation of said lasers, the optical reading unit includes a cell with SLC, which performs fast electrically controlled spatial phase modulation of radiation with depth ≥π, and in order to form on the screen arrays of information with capacity of 108…109 pixels with different geometric configuration, a two-dimensional scanner is employed, said scanner being connected to the optical reading unit and the screen.
EFFECT: high frame rate, wider colour range, higher brightness and suppressing noise.
