FIELD: rolling production.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to detect occurrence of initial stage of critical vibration in working stand of rolling mill. Method comprises continuous measurements during rolling of actual values of current value of motor of main drive of rolling mill, wherein calculating median value of normalized sampling of measured actual values of motor current or their derivative, which is compared with predetermined given median value of normalized sample of motor current or its derivative in conditions of absence of vibration with determination of mismatch value, and based on recognition of continuous increase in mismatch value, occurrence of initial stage of critical vibration is fixed.
EFFECT: use of the invention increases reliability of the rolling process and reduces downtime of the rolling mill.
