FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing of quartz-leucoxene concentrate and can be used for production of titanium dioxide. Method involves annealing concentrate with iron-containing additive at temperature of 1450–1525 °C with further cooling and leaching. Iron-containing additive is taken at a weight ratio of 1:0.5–1 to processed quartz-leucoxene concentrate weight. Leaching is carried out with 60–70 % sulphuric acid at a ratio of T:F 1:2–10 at temperature of 160–170 °C, for 4–6 hours, obtained solution is filtered with separation of iron sulphate and mother solution, which is then subjected to thermal hydrolysis with deposition of titanium hydroxide.
EFFECT: obtaining a concentrate, which is opened under considerably softer conditions, compared to conventional technologies, wherein the obtained product can be processed using standard sulphuric acid technology for producing titanium dioxide from an ilmenite concentrate.
