FIELD: production of titanium dioxide.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to processing of quartz-leucoxene concentrate obtained by enrichment of oil-bearing silicon-titanium ores, and can be used to produce titanium dioxide. Complex processing of quartz-leucoxene concentrate to obtain titanium dioxide includes roasting with an additive and acid leaching. Magnesium oxide or magnesium-containing waste from production of refractory materials in form of brucite is taken as an additive, while the additive is taken at a mass ratio of quartz-leucoxene concentrate to magnesium-containing additive of 1:0.2-0.25. Roasting is carried out at a temperature of 1350-1400°C for 3-4 hours. Leaching is carried out with sulfuric acid of 85-90% concentration at a ratio of 1:(1-2) at a temperature of 235-270°C followed by dilution with water. Free sulfuric acid is neutralized with magnesium oxide to pH 1.4-1.5. The unreacted oxide is separated by filtration, and the mother solution is subjected to thermal hydrolysis at a temperature of 110-115°C with titanium dioxide nuclei.

EFFECT: invention provides simplification of the hardware scheme, increase of environmental friendliness, lowering of the process temperature and increase of the purity of the resulting product.
