FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer data processing and specifically to methods of displaying augmented reality object based on source image. Disclosed method of displaying the augmented reality object on a display of a computing device equipped with a camera and communication means includes the following steps: formation of 3D-model of augmented reality object; obtaining a plurality of separate fragments of an image of a real object, where each fragment is a partial photographic image of a real object obtained from a camera or extracted from a video image obtained from a camera. Method also includes formation of two-dimensional image of real object by combining obtained fragments of image; generating a matrix for transforming coordinates of a two-dimensional image of a real object into proper coordinates corresponding to coordinates of 3D model; and colouring, using a coordinate transformation matrix, elements of 3D model of the augmented reality object in accordance with colours and/or textures of the corresponding elements of the real object represented by the formed two-dimensional image, where colouring is carried out by texturing with areas of 3D model of the augmented reality object or texturing of entire 3D model as a whole. At that at connection of separate textured fragments into one image, "rubbing of seams" are performed, which includes the following steps: determining pixels of a line of link of textured fragments, selecting pixels located at a distance N of pixels on the right and left for each of the pixels of the joint, and colouring pixels between these left and right pixels with a smooth gradient.

EFFECT: possibility of displaying objects of augmented reality when scanning wide-format real objects which do not fit entirely in the field of view of the video camera of the device for displaying augmented reality objects, for which said object of augmented reality is created.
