FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a composition of intercalated modified and calcined smectite clay for use in an olefin polymerization catalyst composition, comprising: (a) cross-linking containing aluminum and: (i) at least one rare-earth metal or a metal of a lanthanide group; or (ii) at least one rare-earth metal or metal of lanthanide group and gallium; and (b) said clay comprising at least one ion-exchange metal selected from a group consisting of magnesium and zinc; wherein said clay is characterized by interplanar distance d001, equal to or greater than 18.5 Angstroms and equal to or less than 100 Angstroms. Also disclosed is a method of producing an intercalated modified and calcined smectite clay composition, described above. In addition, disclosed is an activator-carrier based on intercalated modified and calcined smectite clay for a metallocene olefin polymerisation catalyst, in the absence of an alumoxane or borate activator, where said activator-catalyst support contains intercalated modified and calcined smectite clay described above.
EFFECT: technical result is improvement of catalytic substrates and methods of producing such substrates associated with cross-linked and additionally modified clays, which facilitate solving problems and meeting actual needs in the field of heterogeneous catalysis when producing polymers and, in particular, heterogeneous metallocene catalysts.
