METHOD OF PRODUCING ACETIC ACID Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC C07C51/12 C07C53/08

Abstract RU 2738842 C2

FIELD: chemical or physical processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing acetic acid, comprising steps of: (a) introducing methanol and/or reactive derivative thereof and carbon monoxide into a first reaction zone containing a liquid reaction composition, which is made up of a carbonylation catalyst, optionally a promoter of a carbonylation catalyst, methyl iodide, methyl acetate, acetic acid and water; (b) withdrawing at least part of the liquid reaction composition from the first reaction zone; (c) passing at least a portion of the withdrawn liquid reaction composition to the second reaction zone, wherein the gaseous starting material containing carbon monoxide is added to the liquid reaction composition withdrawn from the first reaction zone at one or more points upstream of the second reaction zone, in one or more points within the second reaction zone or in a combination of one or more points upstream relative to the second reaction zone and one or more points within the second reaction zone; and (d) passing at least a portion of the liquid reaction composition from the second reaction zone to the instantaneous separation zone to form a vapor fraction, which contains acetic acid, methyl iodide, methyl acetate, and a liquid fraction which contains a carbonylation catalyst and an optional promoter of a carbonylation catalyst; wherein flow rate (kg/t) in kg of gaseous starting material containing carbon monoxide, which is added to the second reaction zone, per ton of the liquid reaction composition passed into the instantaneous separation zone is in the range of from 0.5FG to 1.2FG, where FG is determined according to equation 1: (1) FG = (0.296086962×tr)+(0.369636×RR)+(0.295878701×GP0.8134)−23.3448, wherein tr is the duration (s) of holding the liquid reaction composition within the second reaction zone, calculated using equation 2: (2) tr = V2/Ff, in which V2 is volume (m3) of the second reaction zone, and Ff is the volume flow rate (m3/s) of the liquid reaction composition stream into the instantaneous separation zone, RR is the rate (mol/l/h) of the reaction of the liquid reaction composition passed into the second reaction zone, at a temperature at which it is removed from the first reaction zone, and GP is the weight fraction of carbon monoxide in the gaseous starting material containing carbon monoxide, which is added to the second reaction zone, expressed in percentage.

EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing acetic acid.
