FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and material science, specifically to composition and method of producing technical alumina ceramics, incl. structural purpose and armour ceramics. To produce dense ceramics, a charge is used, which is obtained by modifying Al2O3 powder with a nanosize coating of manganese and titanium oxides - precursors of manganese titanate. Coating is applied by liquid-phase method in organic solvents by xerogel formation with composition Mn-Ti-O-C-H and its annealing at temperature 450–700 °C. Free sintering of micropowder α-Al2O3 with median size of particles >1 mcm at 1300–1400 °C allows obtaining corundum ceramics with basic aluminium oxide content >95 wt. %, and with high mechanical properties (longitudinal velocity of sound ≥10.5 km/s, Young's modulus ≥360 GPa, microhardness ≥16 GPa).

EFFECT: technical result is expressed in uniform distribution in the ceramic of manganese titanate additive, which provides sintering at low temperature, and in corresponding reduction of content of structure defects.
