FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to serpentinite processing to produce red-brown iron oxide pigment. Nickel with nickel chloride is leached from iron-nickel concentrate obtained from serpentinite to obtain iron-containing precipitate. At that, before leaching iron-nickel concentrate is mixed with water in ratio 1:1 at temperature of 60 °C. Obtained suspension is added to hydrochloric acid till the pH value is within 1.5–3.0 with subsequent separation of phases and obtaining an iron-containing precipitate. Then, iron-containing precipitate is dried and calcined at temperature of 700 °C for 120 minutes to obtain red-brown iron oxide pigment.

EFFECT: method enables to reduce content of impurities in iron-containing residue and use it to obtain commercial iron oxide pigment.
