FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building technology and can be used in heat treatment of gear wheels. Gear wheels tempering method involves exposure of gear wheel to high-frequency currents for surface hardening of teeth, wherein gear wheel is installed and fixed in rotation device. From each end of the gear wheel, gaplessly with the gear wheel, metal mock-ups repeating the shape of the gear wheel, made with width a making at least 0.1 tooth-length of the tooth of the gear wheel are installed and fixed. Inductor is installed above the gear wheel with metal dummy, the working part length of which is equal to 1.2-1.5 of tooth length of gear wheel. Inductor is actuated by teeth of the gear wheel and metal models with high-frequency currents. Foucault currents exceeding permissible values of hardening currents are induced on sharp edges of teeth ends of metal models. After termination of hardening process metal models are disconnected from rotation device and gear wheel.
EFFECT: provides for hardening of gear wheels without re-sharpening of sharp edges of ends of teeth due to concentration of Foucault currents at their edges, at that identical hardness of entire tooth surface of gear wheel is achieved.
