FIELD: mechanical engineering; heat treatment of thin-walled gear-type clutch members having varying section which are made from complex alloyed steels. SUBSTANCE: after chemical thermal treatment of article which consists in low-temperature carbonitriding, it is subjected to high-frequency current hardening to depth of 1 to 3 mm; subjected high-frequency current hardening are teeth faces with starting chamfer only. The following hardening modes are recommended: heating temperature, 880 to 900 C; heating time, 2 to 3 s; cooling time, 1.5 to 2.5 s; cooling medium, water and inductor fed from vacuum-tube oscillator; shape of active turn has form of loop embracing tooth face in such way that only face of tooth with starting chamfer gets in heating zone and 70 to 80% of tooth volume remain unhardened. EFFECT: possibility of control of depth and shape of hardened layer, thus excluding warpage and damage to teeth in operation. 3 cl, 3 dwg, 1 ex
