FIELD: veterinary medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to veterinary science and aims at treating acute gastrointestinal diseases in newborn calves. Preparation for acute gastrointestinal diseases of newborn calves contains 250 g of glucose, 50 g of sodium chloride, 10 g of calcium lactate, 5 g of ascorbic acid and 220 g of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (blanose), dissolved in a solution prepared as follows: 300 g of common St. John's wort herb placed in gauze are poured with 6–7 l of boiling water and left until temperature drops to 70 °C, wherein after dissolution of glucose, sodium chloride, calcium lactate, ascorbic acid and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose solution volume is adjusted to 10 l by adding water at temperature of 70 °C, carefully grinding floating lumps, obtained solution is left for 12–15 hours at room temperature, stirring periodically several times during this period, and before use chewing gauze with remains of St. John's wort is pulled out and squeezed.

EFFECT: preparation is safe and has no toxic effect, and also provides fast recovery of gastrointestinal disorders and stimulates mechanism of natural body resistance.
