SUBSTANCE: disposable diaper has 2 leg cuffs (6) for protection against leaks, provided respectively on both lateral sides of the absorbent assembly (5) along the longitudinal direction. Each leg cuff (6) for protection against leaks has an inward-oriented part (63), and the sheet material (61) for the formation of the cuffs for protection against leaks is located towards the inner side of the absorbent element along the width direction from the lateral side (43) of the absorbent core. Each cuff has a backward-folding part (64) where the sheet material (61) folds back towards the outer side of the absorbent element along the width direction. The backward-folding part is located above the absorbent element (4). Each cuff also has an outward-folding part (65) located between the backward-folding part (64) and the free end (6b) of each cuff for protection against leaks. The outward-folding part (65) has a length in the width direction that is greater than the length of the inward-oriented part (63). The outward-folding part has a lot of elastic elements (62) that are fixed there in a stretched state. The free end (6b) is located outside the lateral side (43) of the absorbent core. When the elastic area (E) of the outward-folding part (65), which contains the elastic elements (62), is divided in the width direction into two equal parts, defined as the inner zone (E1) and the outer zone (E2), the inner zone (E1) has a higher elongation stress at 70% elongation than the outer zone (E2).
