FIELD: military equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to military equipment and can be used in the manufacture of body armor, in particular in armored structures, consisting of several layers and designed to protect against small arms bullets. The invention can also be used in the design of armored, rocket, engineering equipment, ships. Multilayer heterogeneously hardened armor contains an outer metal plate - a front crushing-deflecting layer, and an inner metal plate - a back retaining layer, hardened by static-pulse treatment (shock waves of deformation) and subsequent chemical-thermal treatment (carburizing). The outer and inner metal plates are assembled into a package with an intermediate diffusing layer made of sheets of non-metallic material. Alternatively, one of the plates is hardened by subsequent carburizing, or the outer and inner metal plates are carburized on both sides, or one of the plates is strengthened by double-sided carburizing, and the other by single-sided. The outer and inner metal plates, as a result of the hardening technological effect and the use of deformation waves, have layer-by-layer varying hardening: maximum at the front layer, increased at the back layer, and heterogeneous at the intermediate layer. Heterogeneously hardened structure is formed due to hardening by shock waves of deformation.
EFFECT: increasing protective properties of the armor while maintaining the weight of the structure or reducing the weight of the structure while maintaining the protective properties of the armor.
