FIELD: metal manufacture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cathode unit of an electrolyzer for aluminum manufacture. The cathode unit comprises at least one carbon and/or graphite-based cathode block, at least one current collector system made from a highly electrically conductive material with specific electrical conductivity greater than that of steel, wherein the outlet end parts of at least one current collector system protrude outward from at least one cathode block and/or are located within at least one cathode block, wherein at least one and preferably all parts of at least one collector system has/have an upward slope when viewed along the length of the cathode block, wherein there is either direct contact between at least one cathode block and at least one collector system, or at least one layer of electrically conductive material between at least one cathode block and at least one collector system, and at least one collector system has at least one insert with unbranched or branched configuration.
EFFECT: invention allows connecting the cathode node directly to the external busbar, installing the node directly and immediately in the electrolyzer upon delivery, and providing more uniform distribution of current in cathode blocks and reduced voltage loss.
