FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: electrolytic cell comprises jacket and lining that make the working cavity to receive high-temperature melts of cryolite and aluminium, current feed cathode composed by multiple cathode units that make the working cavity base, anode suspended inside electrolytic cell to stay in contact with said melts, shunt rod without direct contact with said melts, and electric jumpers arranged outside of said jacket. Shunt rod comprises first conductor connected with said jumpers, its outer surface being in electric contact with cathode unit, and second conductor with lower resistance than that of the first conductor and mechanically or chemically connected with first conductor outer surface in a duct of groove made at said outer surface to make a part of first conductor outer surface.
EFFECT: longer life of cathode units.
