SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydraulic engineering, hydraulics, hydromechanics, and more specifically to hydraulic structures designed to extinguish the energy of a water flow in various spillway structures. The counter-vortex energy absorber of the water flow includes an impeller of the same type and direction of rotation installed in series along the flow on the shaft line as the standard impeller of the hydraulic turbine, and an additional impeller of the hydraulic turbine of an axial type, the shaft of which is connected to the shaft of the standard hydraulic turbine, while the direction of rotation of the working the wheels of the additional hydraulic turbine are opposite to the direction of rotation of the standard hydraulic turbine. In this case, a standard hydraulic turbine can be axial or diagonal, or radial-axial.
EFFECT: possibility of using the water path of the said hydroturbines both for generating electrical energy and for extinguishing the energy of the flow without generating electrical energy.
