FIELD: pharmaceuticals.
SUBSTANCE: present group of inventions relates to the field of pharmaceuticals and to the production of beta-glucans and their use in pharmaceuticals. An antimicrobial agent is proposed, which is a product of beta-glucan treatment with iodic acid or its salt, followed by purification and isolation, where the treatment is carried out in an aqueous or aqueous-organic medium containing organic solvents in an amount from 0.1 to 100%, at a pH in the range from 1 to 14, at a temperature from 0 to 100°C; and where the content of carbonyl groups in the antimicrobial agent is from 0.1 to 3 mmol / g. The group of inventions also relates to a method for producing said antimicrobial agent and to antimicrobial compositions containing an effective amount of said antimicrobial agent. EFFECT: group of inventions provides for obtaining an agent with antimicrobial activity with high biological safety.
