FIELD: satellite communications.
SUBSTANCE: some implementations work in the context of a satellite with a transparent repeater that illuminates the user and gateway coverage areas using fixed narrow beams, beam shaping can be used together with coordinated, phase-synchronized communication between distributed access nodes to generate signals that are coherently combined by the satellite. Scintillation and/or other inhomogeneities in the atmosphere may impair phase synchronization at the access nodes. Accordingly, implementations can monitor the effectiveness of phase tracking in access nodes to detect a phase tracking error in at least one of the access nodes. In response to the detection of a phase tracking error, implementations may block the transmission of direct uplink data signals by at least this access node.
EFFECT: reduced effect of scintillation in satellite communication systems with geographically distributed access nodes.
