FIELD: aviation.

SUBSTANCE: invention is used for monitoring the current technical condition and predicting the residual service life of PVC insulation of airborne wires. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that the transit time of an ultrasonic pulse from the outer surface of the insulation to the electrically conductive core of the wire and back is measured by means of an ultrasonic flaw detector with an ultrasonic transducer, which is installed in different places of the insulation along a wire length of 10-15 mm, uniformly randomly from all sides of the outer the cylindrical generatrix of the insulation surface, 15 to 20 measurements of the ultrasonic pulse transit time are carried out, the ultrasound propagation speed is calculated according to a given mathematical formula and the residual life of the insulation is predicted in the case of the insulation aging mechanism, determined by the desorption of the plasticizer from the insulation plastic compound from its outer surface, taking into account earlier existing and expected operating conditions of the aircraft according to a given mathematical relationship.

EFFECT: providing the possibility of prompt in real time determination of the plasticizer concentration in the plastic compound of the wires, as well as providing the possibility of increasing the accuracy of predicting the residual life of the wires.
