The method contains steps at which physical and virtual components of an industrial automated system are monitored, and the industrial automated system includes the first computing node and a guest tool operating in the first computing node; an event is detected that is associated with the first computing node, which affects the performance of an industrial automated system; the specified event is reacted to, while the second computing node is being selected from multiple computing nodes to take over the execution of the guest tool running in the first computing node; the second computing node is configured to execute the guest tool on the second computing node; the security of the guest tool is configured in accordance with the security policy associated with the guest tool; and the network of an industrial automated system is configured to transfer control from the first computing node to the second computing node.
