SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of drilling wells and includes systems for determining the volume of fluid in the annular space of the well and a method for determining the volume of fluid in the annular space of the well. The system for determining the volume of fluid in the annular space of the well consists of a pressure wave generator, the first and second pressure wave receivers and a controller. The generator is located in the upper part of the well, the pressure wave generated by it propagates through the fluid in the annular space of the well. The first pressure wave receiver is located in the wellbore annulus to receive the generated pressure wave at a first time value. The second pressure wave receiver is located in the borehole annulus to receive the generated pressure wave at a second time. The controller determines the change in the volume of liquid in the annular space based at least in part on the phase shift between the received pressure wave at the first and second times.
EFFECT: accurate determination of the volume of the annular space.
