FIELD: electrolytic reactors.

SUBSTANCE: system and a method for controlling an electrolytic reactor on demand for supplying hydrogen-oxygen gas to an internal combustion engine. The system contains a set of sensors connected to the reactor. The sensors measure a set of reactor parameters. The system also includes an electronic control unit connected to the set of sensors and a motor, and a reactor control board connected to the reactor and an electronic control unit. Electronic control unit monitors many parameters of the reactor and many parameters of the engine; determines the performance level of the reactor; determines the level of engine performance; determines the change in engine performance level to predict future engine load levels; and determines the ideal reactor performance level corresponding to the engine performance level or future engine load level. The reactor control board controls the reactor by modifying at least one of the electrical current supplied to the reactor, the electrical voltage applied to the reactor, and the temperature of the reactor.

EFFECT: system minimizes reactor power consumption and parasitic energy loss typically associated with continuous reactors.
