FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for the production of medicines, food additives, injection solutions and drinks. Method for producing magnesium citrate includes treatment of natural serpentine purified from iron with citric acid solution at a concentration of 15-20% and temperature of 50-65°C until pH of 2.5-3.0 is reached. The suspension is obtained, which is separated to obtain a recyclable precipitate and a hot solution of magnesium citrate. Magnesium carbonate is added to the specified solution until pH of 4.0 is reached; it is cooled to 5-8°C and is kept for 1-3 days for magnesium citrate crystallization. Crystalline magnesium citrate is washed with deionized water cooled to 5-8°C.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to produce magnesium citrate mainly or completely using natural magnesium-containing raw materials – serpentine, providing its waste-free recycling.
