SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of railway transport, in particular to methods for cleaning the ballast layer of the railroad bed from petroleum products. The cleaning method involves loading ballast from crushed stone into the washing reel in a volume of no more than 30% of the volume of the sowing part of the washing. The ballast may contain more than 15% of petroleum products. The washing solution is fed into the reel in a volume of no more than 50% of the washing volume. The solution together with the small fractions of the ballast is removed to the sump. The solution is divided into fractions by settling. The cleaning solution is again fed to the washing to wash the next portion of the ballast. At the first stage of cleaning, the ballast is treated with a washing 5% aqueous solution based on the reagent of high-molecular polyvinylpyrrolidone. At the second stage of cleaning, the ballast is treated with a washing 16% aqueous solution of the disodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. Each stage of cleaning is carried out for 15 minutes at a temperature of 45ºC.

EFFECT: ballast cleaning time is reduced.
