SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a control system (1) designed to control the characteristics of a ribbon (W) moving along a closed path in a paper machine. The system contains a guide (2) extending substantially along the axis (A); and a control device (4) designed to move along the guide (2) and containing at least one measurement device (23, 24, 25) designed to measure at least one parameter reflecting the characteristics of the ribbon (W); while the device (4) is a self-propelled motorized device equipped with a motor (11) and at least one driving element (12), which is actuated by a motor (11) and which contacts at least one corresponding surface (15) of the guide (2) to move the device (4) along the guide (2).
EFFECT: invention is aimed at improving control reliability.
