FIELD: digital image processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of technology for detecting overexposed or saturated areas in an image. A method for detecting saturated pixels in an image whose colors are represented by color coordinates corresponding to different color channels, containing a step in which pixels are detected whose colors have at least one color coordinate corresponding to one of the said color channels, which exceeds the threshold value (thr; thg; thb) of saturation for the said color channel, characterized in that the threshold values (thr; thg; thb) of saturation for the said color channels, respectively, are equal to the color coordinates (rw, gw, bw) representing the estimated light source (ILL) of the said image, and the said estimated light source corresponds to the white point of the image, which is a color that is perceived by the observer as white in the image scene.
EFFECT: providing the ability to accurately detect the overexposed area of the image while improving the accuracy of subsequent color correction.
