FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to measure the content of nitrogen oxide (NO) in the air. According to the invention, an electrochemical cell with a cavity formed by two gas-tightly connected disks of an oxygen-conducting solid electrolyte of the composition 0.9 ZrO2 + 0.1 Y2O3, between which there is a capillary, is placed in the flow of the analyzed air on the electrodes located at the opposite surfaces of one of the discs. A DC voltage within 0.5-1 V is applied with the connection of the positive pole to the external electrode, by means of which free oxygen and oxygen obtained after the decomposition of nitrogen oxide are pumped out of the cell cavity. When a stationary state is reached, when the amount of oxygen pumped out of the cell cavity becomes equal to the amount of oxygen entering this cavity through the capillary, the total limiting current flowing through the cell, corresponding to the content of oxygen in the analyzed air, plus oxygen formed from the decomposition of nitrogen oxide, is measured, and after subtracting from the total limiting current of the limit current corresponding to the oxygen content in the air, the concentration of nitrogen oxide in the analyzed air is determined according to the proposed formula.

EFFECT: invention provides for simple, reliable and quick measurement of the content of nitrogen oxide in the air atmosphere.
