FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tooling industry items, particularly, to production of large scale monolithic preforms of increased thickness from super-hard materials based on cubic boron nitride for manufacture of tooling cutting elements. The large scale preform of a super-hard composite material is comprised of a filler in form of a super-hard material constituting cubic boron nitride, a matrix containing a mixture of Al and TiC, and a bonding phase containing a mixture of components selected from the group: AlB2, AlN, Ti2AlC, Ti3AlC, at the following ratio of components of the super-hard composite material, wt.%: said filler - 42 to 82; said matrix - 9 to 29; said bonding phase - 9 to 29. The method includes preliminary pressing of a homogeneous mixture of components with a plasticiser at a pressure of 490 to 590 MPa producing granules, grinding the granules on a sieve with a mesh size of 1600 mcm, pressing the powder into briquettes at the same pressure and executing thermal vacuum treatment of the briquettes at a temperature of 400 to 500°C.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is increased productivity of the method for producing a large scale preform of a super-hard composite material with high physical mechanical and operational properties evenly distributed over the volume of the preform.
