FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes application of high pressure and temperature to an ultra hard powder which is in a contact with a binder. The binder is produced of Ti-Cu-Me alloys, where Me is Fe, Ni, or Co, with Ti content of 30-75% by mass. The alloys are ground and mixed with aluminium. The mixture contains (in % by mass): Ti-Cu-Me alloys, where Me is Fe, Ni, or Co - 95- 80; aluminium - 5-20. The mixture is pressed into tablets having diameter equal to 0.7-0.95 that of a heater and placed on the bottom of the graphite heater. Cubic boron nitride is used as the ultra hard powder. The powder is metallized with double layer coating to an amount of 25 % by mass. The first layer is made of a metal belonging to the group of Fe, Ni, Co. The second layer is made of Cu. The product is placed on the metal binder tablet in the heater. A layer of powder insulator of boron carbide is placed on the layer of metallized cubic boron nitride powder, with volume ratio of cubic boron nitride powder and metal binder layers to that of boron carbide equal to 2-4. Then pressure and temperature are applied with a stepwise increase of pressing force. A tool employing such a material has the endurance equal to 90 minutes by cutting a 40 HRC steel at 90 m/sec. Yield is equal to 85-90% . EFFECT: increased tool cutting properties, increased yield of product.
