SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for determining the porosity and permeability characteristics of a reservoir and can be used to control the petroleum production process, in particular, to conduct processes for increasing petroleum recovery. A method for determining the porosity and permeability characteristics of a reservoir, including determining the volume of nitrogen ensuring the achievement of a steady or pseudo-steady gas filtration mode in the reservoir, for pumping into at least one injection borehole that opened the examined reservoir, and examining the borehole prior to injecting nitrogen while conducting production logging testing (PLT); injecting nitrogen into the borehole before a steady or pseudo-steady filtration mode in the reservoir while conducting PLT and ensuring registration of the values of temperature, nitrogen consumption at the output of the compressor providing nitrogen injection, and changes in the bottom-hole pressure during and upon completion of nitrogen injection; wherein the presence and position of clay and sand sublayers, the injection capacity profile in dynamics are determined during PLT, the survey diagrams are linked by depth and matched with the structural elements; receiving the porosity and permeability characteristics of the reservoir based on the recorded values of temperature, nitrogen consumption at the output of the compressor providing nitrogen injection, and changes in the bottom-hole pressure and the data obtained during PLT.
