FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for purification of the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. A mixed oxide of zirconium, cerium, lanthanum and optionally at least one rare earth element other than cerium and lanthanum (REE), also containing hafnium, is proposed. The weight parts of the specified elements, expressed in the oxide equivalent per the total weight of the mixed oxide, are as follows: 8-45% of cerium, 1-10% of lanthanum, 0-15% of the specified rare earth element other than cerium and lanthanum, the weight part of hafnium is less than or equal to 2.5%, the rest is zirconium. The mixed oxide has a specific surface area according to BET of at least 30 m2/g after firing at 1100°C for 4 hours, and a specific surface area according to BET of at least 55 m2/g after firing at 1000°C for 4 hours. A mixed oxide consisting of a mixture of zirconium, cerium, lanthanum oxides, optionally at least one rare earth element other than cerium and lanthanum (REE), and optionally hafnium, a method for producing a mixed oxide, a composition for catalysis in the purification of car exhaust gases, a catalytically active coating layer, a catalytic converter for processing car exhaust gases, the use of a mixed oxide, and a method for processing exhaust gases of internal combustion engines are also proposed.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain a mixed oxide with good heat resistance, with a high pore volume, a high surface area even after exposure at high temperature. +
