FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of studying the surface of materials, in particular, a method for determining the parameters of surface cracks, depths and angles of inclination in metals and alloys, and can be used for technical diagnostics of metal structures for various purposes. Essence: hardness is measured using the Rockwell C-scale on the defect-free section HRC0 and on the opposite edges of the crack HRC1 and HRC2. If the measured hardness on the opposite sides of the crack differs by no more than the error value of the measuring device, then the crack depth, mm, is determined by the formula that takes into account the decrease in hardness at the crack edge as a percentage of hardness in the defect-free zone. If the measured hardness on the opposite edges of the crack differs by an amount greater than the error of the measuring device, then the angle of inclination of the crack is determined in degrees.
EFFECT: increasing reliability of determining the parameters of surface cracks in metals and alloys.
