METHOD FOR THRESHOLD RECEPTION OF OPTICAL SIGNALS Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC G01S17/48

Abstract RU 2756384 C1

FIELD: communication.

SUBSTANCE: area of application: invention relates to reception of signals, in particular to the technology for isolating signals from noise using avalanche photodiodes, and can be used in a location, communication and any area wherein the maximum signal-to-noise ratio needs to be provided. Substance: method for threshold reception of optical signals using an avalanche photodiode, including reception, amplification and threshold processing of signals, as well as formation of output pulses when the signal exceeds the preset actuation threshold, the avalanche multiplication factor M of the photodiode is pre-installed in the most critical conditions of temperature t°cr and background illumination power Pbcr, wherein the RMS value of the output noise σ1 in the non-avalanche mode is determined at the output of the photodiode, and then the avalanche multiplication coefficient is increased to a value of M = Mcr whereat the RMS value of the output noise increases to a value of σM = (1.7…1.8) σ1, the value Mcr is stored, followed by setting the avalanche multiplication coefficient in actual operating conditions, wherein is a preset parameter depending on the ambient temperature and the brightness of the background, and setting the actuation threshold at a level whereat the frequency f of false actuation from noise emissions complies with the condition f1 < f < f 2, wherein f 1 and f 2 are the lower and upper limits of the tolerance for the frequency f, respectively, and after the frequency f is stabilised within the predetermined limits, the operating mode of optical signal reception is activated.

EFFECT: ensured maximum sensitivity under all operating conditions.
