FIELD: optical signal detection.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the reception of signals, in particular to the technique of isolating signals from noise using avalanche photodiodes. The invention presents a method for detecting optical signals using an avalanche photodiode, including threshold signal processing and the formation of output pulses when the signal from the output of the photodiode exceeds a given trigger threshold, the frequency f0 of noise crossing the zero threshold is pre-determined, the photodiode offset mode is switched on avalanche-free, the trigger threshold U is set at a level corresponding to the frequency of noise triggers of the threshold device 1/T << f << f0, where T - the time of measuring the frequency f, this threshold is fixed, the square of the threshold/noise ratio is determined by the formula, after which, by controlling the offset voltage of the avalanche photodiode, the offset voltage is fixed at this level and set the trigger threshold at which the frequency fop of noise triggers meets the requirements in the operating mode, after which signal detection starts.
EFFECT: ensuring the maximum signal-to-noise ratio in all operating conditions.
