FIELD: acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: sound recording device contains a microphone array and a means of generating a directional diagram made with the possibility to generate an audio output signal with a generated directional diagram and a noise reference signal. The first and the second generators of directional diagram generate the first and the second signal in the frequency domain, respectively, from the frequency conversion of the audio output signal with the generated directional diagram and the noise reference signal. A difference processor generates indicators of the difference between time-frequency partition elements, which, relatively to a given frequency, indicate the difference between a monotone norm function (modulus) of a value of the time-frequency partition element of the first signal in the frequency domain and a monotone norm function of a value of the time-frequency partition element of the second signal in the frequency domain for the first frequency. An evaluation unit generates an evaluation indicating, whether the audio output signal contains a point source of sound, in response to a combined value of the difference for difference indicators of the time-difference partition element relatively to frequencies above a frequency threshold value.
