FIELD: pharmaceutics.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of pharmaceutics, namely to a method for the treatment of separation anxiety in dogs and to the use of dexmedetomidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt as a single active ingredient in the form of oromucosal semi-solid gel for the treatment of separation anxiety in dogs. The method includes the injection to an animal of dexmedetomidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt as a single active ingredient in the form of semi-solid gel for oromucosal use at a dose from 100 mkg/m2 to 150 mkg/m2, wherein gel contains from 0.005 to 0.05% wt./wt. of dexmedetomidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides for the creation of effective medicamental non-sedative treatment of separation anxiety in dogs, when using dexmedetomidine or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt as a single active ingredient in the form of oromucosal semi-solid gel having quick start of action, relatively simple injection to be performed by the dog’s owner, and effective mitigation of symptoms of separation anxiety for at least 8 hours.
