FIELD: polystyrene production.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a liquid composition, in particular for foaming thermoplastic polystyrene (PS), which is used for the production of extrusion films and sheets to improve mechanical properties of foamed film. The liquid composition for foaming thermoplastic polystyrene includes 25-90% by wt. of a liquid carrier relatively to the total weight of the liquid composition, from 10 to 75% by wt. of at least one endothermic chemical foaming agent relatively to the total weight of the liquid composition. The liquid composition is selected from mineral oil, acetylated monoglyceride or mixtures thereof. The foaming agent is selected from succinic acid, succinic acid salts, succinic acid esters, adipic acid, adipic acid salts, adipic acid esters, phthalic acid, phthalic acid salts, phthalic acid esters, citric acid, citric acid salts and citric acid esters. The composition is a dispersion, in which the endothermic chemical foaming agent is dispersed in the liquid carrier.
EFFECT: increased flexibility (elongation at break) of products made of foamed polystyrene, especially films and sheets, while maintaining sufficient rigidity of material (Young’s module).
