FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy, namely the production of a brass strip made of alloy L68, intended for high-frequency longitudinal pipe welding. An ingot is melted and cast with a silicon content of 0.05 wt.% inclusive to less than 0.1 wt.% and a lead content of not more than 0.018 wt.%. Hot and cold rolling is carried out, while cold rolling is carried out with at least one intermediate annealing to a thickness of not more than 1.4 mm. The tape is subjected to final annealing in modes that ensure the grain size of the microstructure of the tape is not more than 50 microns.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to prevent the formation of transverse cracks near the weld, leading to breaks during subsequent drawing and to discontinuities of the finished pipes, as well as to reduce the wall thickness of the welded pipe billet, which makes it possible to increase the accuracy of the finished pipe and reduce energy consumption when drawing to the finished size.
